Persuasive Speech Dont Eat Fast Food Attention gather: Do you know that fast food can lead to some serious illnesses such as heart attack and lack of energy? As we know that fast food is a very important meal in the America, and a quarter of the American suffer from it sickness affect and some of them even die? Tie to the audience: fast food is part of our today. We like fast food mainly is because it is convenience and easily available. On top of that is tasty Thesis and preview: many of us know that fast food is not good but we do not know how bad it is. Today I would like to persuade my audience to stop eating fast food. I will show what is in fast food, what can it do to our body and how we can prevent it. Body First point: junk food is bad because it contains chemical flavor -this means that junk food is very poor in nutrition The prepare part is definitely added with preservatives to make it last and preservative is very harmful to our health. Pre-prepared fast food has lost its original taste and needed to be added with flavor to enhance its taste According to Eric Schlosser (2001, in his best seller book entitled Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal, he says that just about all the food in a fast food industry is processed; so much of the flavor is destroyed. Eric Schlosser also said that fast food is heavy on fat, salt and sugar, and reduced nutrient. Second point: junk food is unhealthy from it uses of too much of oil. -fast food need to be fast cook and lots of oil are needed Fat and calories are difficult to digest in our body and undigested fat and calories will be accumulated in our body to cause too much oil in our body -The Star newspaper reported in A Big Fat Problem (2009) by Priya Kulasagran says that government worldwide are bracing themselves for an obesity epidemic soon. This condition can potentially lead to a range of health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and even premature death. Third point: junk food causes health problems Fat and calories are difficult to digest in our body and undigested fat and calories will be accumulated in our body to cause too much oil in our body.like diabetes and obesity The Star newspaper reported in A Big Fat Problem (2009) by Priya Kulasagran says that government worldwide are bracing themselves for an obesity epidemic soon. -if we do not avoid it now, our children will suffer in the future -this fact is also available in Erics book the one you show me last night about 200,000 in hospital and in 10 years it will reached about 511,000 which is the population of Southern Malaysia Solution we need to control our consumption of fast food to balance our nutrition by eating more nutritional and natural food. For example, milk, chess, salad, and many more. Conclusion Convince my audience to stop eating fast food and eat more natural food to protect our health and future Fast food is becoming part of our life in the modern society. Due to convenience and rushing for time, many of us are now depending on fast food for our meal. Also, fast food is at almost anywhere, shopping center, high way, even airport, to make it so easily access that we all find it very convenience. Added with their delivery services and fast services, it is not only convenient but also fast to save times when we are in the rush. we all eat fast food because it is convenient and tasty, and we are also attracted to lots of promotion and free gifts, but we do not know that every bite we take, we are risking our life. Many of us know that fast food is not good to our health but we do not know how bad it is. Today I would like to persuade my audience to stop eating fast food as the harmful ingredient in à fast food. Fast food is known as junk food due to its lack of nutrition and too much chemical flavor that are harmful to our health. Most of the fast food are pre-prepared and then go through a simple process to speed up their services. The prepare part is definitely added with preservatives to make it last and it is very harmful to our health. Without preservatives, the pre-prepare food will be easily spoiled and never last. Preservative is toxin that can and caused cancer and is acidic to harm our health. During process, flavor is also added to make fast food tastier. Unlike freshly cook food, where we maintain its original taste. Pre-prepared fast food has lost its original taste and needed to be added with flavor to enhance its taste. According to Eric Schlosser (2006), in his best seller book entitled Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal, he says that just about all the food in a fast food industry is processed; so much of the flavor is destroyed. Eric Schlosser also said that fast food is heavy on fat, salt and sugar, and reduced nutrient. Most flavors in fast food are made from chemical. The tastier it is, the more chemical is needed. We all know that food added with chemical is very harmful to our health. Too much chemical processed food can caused cancer. Some chemical flavor can caused our hair to drop, affect our skin structure, deteriorate our organs function and affect our body cell. All these will slowly kill our health. Eric schlosser reported in his book entitled Fast food Nation (2006) that about 200,000 people are sickened by food borne disease in the United State. About 900 are hospitalized and fourteen die. If Eric Schloeers report is true, in 10 years we will see about 511,000 people will die from food borne disease which is equal to the population of Southern Malaysia. Fast food is also fast cook. In order to cook fast, too much oil is needed. Therefore, fast food is very oily because too much oil is being absorbed into the food. When we eat fast food, we are actually eating oil. We all know that oil contains very high fat and calories, and these are the main cause of obesity. Fat and calories are difficult to digest in our body and undigested fat and calories will be accumulated in our body to cause too much oil in our body. Obesity is caused by too much fat in our body. The According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) more than a quarter of the American population suffers a bout of food poisoning each year. Star newspaper reported in A Big Fat Problem (2009) by Priya Kulasagran says that government worldwide are bracing themselves for an obesity epidemic soon. This condition can potentially lead to a range of health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and even premature death Obesity is the main cause to many health problems. It can affect our muscles, blood circulation, lung and kidney. Once our blood circulation is being affected, many other health problems will happen. For example, heart problem and lack of energy Our lives today cannot live without fast food. They are too easily available. And they are tasty and fast delivered. But too much fast food is definitely not good for our health. So, we need to control our consumption of fast food to balance our nutrition by eating more nutritional and natural food. For example, milk, chess, salad, and many more. With that we can live a comfortable, longer and healthier life. And there you have it. There for, for the better of our health and life, i strongly suggest my audience to stop eating fast food and eat more natural food to balance our nutrition and protect our health and future.

Marketing Smoke Out Essay
Many products have been sold in the market offering to stop a smoker from smoking. However, many of these products have failed. The main reason is that the body has been addicted to nicotine. Thus, the body craves for a stick and a stick and a stick and a stick and so on and so forth of cigarette to quench the bodyââ¬â¢s desire for the deadly nicotine. The following paragraphs explains how the new product Smoke out will finally fill the smokersââ¬â¢ desire to stop their smoking habit dead in its tracks. a. What is the product name? Describe the product. 2 pts. The new product isà smoke out. The product looks like a real cigarette stick. At one end of the cigarette has drawn to look like it has been lighted. And, at the other is a cigarette butt that feels like the real cigarette but. The cigarette butt which enters the smokersââ¬â¢ mouth has been filled with medicine. This medicine tastes and smells like a real cigarette smoke. However, The best advantage about this cigarette is that the smoker does not cut his habit of smoking entirely. For, he continues to smoke the smoke out in order to comply with his habit of smoking. Only, this time, a non smoking medicine is swallowed by the cigarette and cigar smokes that smells and tastes like smoke but the medicine actually mixes with the smokerââ¬â¢s blood and neutralizes the nicotine that is already in the smokersââ¬â¢ body. For, nicotine is an addictive chemical that sparks the human bodyââ¬â¢s craving to smoke another cigar or cigarette. For, many people have developed this smo king habit many years back. And they feel that stopping the smoking habit is a gargantuan task (Michman, Mazze & Greco, 2003, p. 1). B1. Explain how you are segmenting the market. 5 pts. The market segment is the smoking public. This segment includes people who smoke from the earliest possible age to the oldest possible age. Also, this segment includes all the male and female genders. Likewise, this segment includes all smokers in the all economic classes. Meaning the poor, the rich, the averagely rich and the extremely rich and buy this new product out in the market called Smoke out. In addition, this product will be sold to people of all religions. This product will zoom in to the African American customers, the White Americans, the Americans of European descent, the Americans of East Asian descent, the Americans of East. Likewise, the market segment will include the Mexicans, the Canadians, the South American descent. The above segment will be implemented in order not be branded as a discriminator of customers. This segment will first be test piloted in the Los Angeles, California area in January of 2008. This will continue until March of 2008. Next, the second phase of the product launch of Smoke out the product will be launched in June of 2008 if the test here will produce enough profits to merit continuing to the next phase. However, if the results of the first phase in Los Angeles California will not be successful because the sales generated will not exceed the total amount of marketing expenses, the administration expenses and the cost of raw materials, direct labor and factory overhead in producing the Smoke out product (Michman, Mazze & Greco, 2003, p. 1). B2. Why did you choose this method of customer segmentation? Be specific. 2 pts. This market segmentation give the best results at lesser expenses. For, the companyââ¬â¢s selling only in the Los Angeles market is similar to injecting a new drug into rats as guinea pigs to determine if the drug will cure cancer or eliminate diabetes. This is the first phase of the market segmentation in the drug manufacturing and selling business. And, this phase one will now move on to phase two of the experimentation if the drug test shows that the drugs will be cure the cancerà or diabetes in the rats. However, the drug testing will not continue to phase two of the medical experimentation if the drug does not cure the cancer or diabetes. Obviously, phase two will continue if the drug shows that the drug can cure cancer and diabetes in rats. The phase of this drug experiment is injecting the cancer and or diabetesà -curing drug on humans who have cancers and diabetes (Michman, Mazze & Greco, 2003, p. 24). Thus, the phase two will no push through if the Los Angeles, California test pilot segment will show that people abhor the product and the costs and expenses to produce the Smoke out will be higher than the revenues generated from selling the smoking habit buster product. For, there is a very high probability that this smoke busting product will not generate net profits if the Smoke out product will not generate net profits in the Los Angeles test pilot area within the three month test period (Michman, Mazze & Greco, 2003, p. 53). c. Who is the target market? The target market, which is phase 1 (Los Angeles, California) has been chosen because it mimics many states within the United States. Thus, whatever will be the financial findings in this test pilot area will give a high probability of what will happen when the product is finally launch all over the United States and all countries around the world. Meaning, California has people in the fire hazardous forests. Los Angeles is the home to the rich where Rodeo Drive located and the Beverly Hills area where the rich take up their residences. It also has its share of poor people living in â⬠¦..à à à It also has its share of the lesbians and gays. Los Angeles has its share of Asians, African Americans, Europeans, South Americans and other races. It has also different religions inside its boundary. It has also both males and females resembling the gender population of other states. It has its own share of smokers just like the smoking population of the other states within the Unit ed States (Moschis, 1994, p. 6). For Los Angelesà represents the very best of America which includes Beverly Hills and Malibu and the Worst of America. The worst of Los Angeles includes the gang wars and day to day violence in the streets. Also, the Los Angeles population is most populated by African Americans, Latinos and native Americans since 1781. Los Angeles is well known for its beautiful weather most of the year. The cost of living here is also high but not too high for the average wage American (Collier, 2002). Thus, the success of Smoke out in Los Angeles will have a high probability of being a success when it is marketed to the entire United States segment (Moschis, 1994, p. 10). d. What are your productsââ¬â¢ benefits to the target market? 4 pts. The product will give the smoker the feeling that he is smoking. Thus the does not literally cut his smoking habit. What happens is that the medicine fused into the Smoke out will slowly neutralize the nicotine that has been piled up for many years in the smokersââ¬â¢ blood and lungs. The smokers will lose their crave for smoking without even a sweat because it is the medicine that neutralizes the bodyââ¬â¢s craving for addiction for nicotine (Moschis, 1994, p. 90). e. At what price will your product be introduced? Why? 4 pts. The price will be $100. This price is based on the simple reason that a personââ¬â¢s health cannot be equated to cash. For a personââ¬â¢s life is priceless. Also, the cost of the Smoke Out Is surely lesser than if the smoker will be operated in the hospital for lung cancer and high blood which is one of the side effects of smoking for many years (Moschis, 1994, p. 123). f. What pricing strategy are you using? Why? 4 pts. The pricing strategy used is the cost plus profit pricing. For, a business has to generate revenues that will exceed the total amount of costs and daily operating expenses of marketing the Smoke out product (Abdallah, 2004, p. 48). g. What objectives will be accomplished by using this strategy? Be specific. 5 pts. The objectives that will be accomplished by this strategy are: ââ¬â To know if the people will buy the product. ââ¬â To know if enough people will buy the product so that the revenues from sales willà be more than the total costs and expenses of producing and marketing the Smoke outà product launch. ââ¬â To generate findings from a test pilot launch so that results will be known at a earlierà stage of the product life cycle (Moschis, 1994, p. 93). h. Why is the product worth this price? 2 pts. As discussed above, a personââ¬â¢s life cannot be equated to money for it is priceless. Thus, the $100 selling price of the product will not be noticed when the product is marketed as bestà product to stop smoking without even trying. i. Identify and explain what prices you should charge at each stage of the PLC? 12 pts. I will use the same $100 selling price at each stage of the product life cycle. The reason is plain and simple. A personââ¬â¢s life is worth more than $1,000,000 and $100 is justà a trickle from a personââ¬â¢s monthly salary. Thus, if the product will be bought with price of $100 which is very very very low and affordable.

Reflection Of A Discourse Community - 1591 Words
Introduction Paul Ryan once said, ââ¬Å"Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.â⬠We do not often realize how important it is for everybody to work together to achieve a goal. A community is a group of individual people gathered together to form a whole, like a school, local church, government entity, non-profit organization, sport team, etc. This whole can make reference to a discourse community. According to John Swales, discourse communities are unions where individuals have a common purpose, and communicate to achieve this. There are six characteristics that make up a discourse community. They are a set of common public goals, mechanisms of communication among itsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Literature Review In the article, ââ¬Å"The Concept of Discourse Community,â⬠John Swales defines what a discourse community is, and yet, he strongly argues that a discourse community must meet six specific characteristics. A social group must have a set of common goals, methods of intercommunication between its members, feedback, the usage of genres, a determined lexis, and a rank that defines the level of expertise each member has. With that being said, Swales highlights the need of a clarification of what differs a discourse community from a speech community. In Erikââ¬â¢s Borg (2003) article, ââ¬Å"Discourse communityâ⬠, the concept of a speech community ââ¬Å"refers to actual people who recognize their language use as different from other language users.â⬠(p.398) Additionally, Swales states that discourse communities ââ¬Å"recruits its members by persuasion, training, or relevant qualificationâ⬠and speech communitiesââ¬â¢ recruits ââ¬Å"its [members] by birth, accident or adoptionâ⬠. Even though speech communities do share similar linguistic rules among its members, norms, and theories, they do not share common a common goal. They lack communication among its members, and lastly, they do not accomplish the utilization of genres like a discourse community does. Moreover, it is established that genres are ââ¬Å"how things get done, when language is used to accomplish themâ⬠(Martin, 1985). Why Support the Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act Free Essays
For the past years, health and health care have transformed to become the dominant economic and political issues in the United States and many other countries. Because most nations have experienced rapid rises in health care spending over the past 30 years, governments have assisted patients in their countries because the cost is simply becoming unaffordable for them. During the earlier times, provision of health care was a relatively simple matter. We will write a custom essay sample on Why Support the Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act or any similar topic only for you Order Now Doctors carried most of the equipment they used in a black bag and the same doctor was likely to attend a patient for most, or all, of her or his life. During those days the range of medical and surgical interventions was quite modest. Today, sophisticated diagnostic technology complements an extensive array of medical and surgical options making medical care a very complex, highly specialized, and costly commodity. One of the most alarming diseases that had burdened American people is kidney failure. According to a U.S. Newswire report (16 March 2005),à approximately 400,000 Americans currently suffer from kidney failure and of those, around 300,000 require dialysis several times a week, for an average of 3.5 hours per session. At the current rate of new cases ââ¬â many the results of diabetes, obesity and hypertension ââ¬â the number of patients is expected to quadruple to more than 2.2 million by the year 2030. Many experts recommended that early detection and better disease management is regarded as the best means to delay the onset of kidney failure. Definitely, kidney function is essential for life. Once a personââ¬â¢s own kidneys fail, some form of treatment is necessary if they are to go on living. Currently, there are two forms of treatment ââ¬â dialysis (in which the kidney function is taken over by artificial means) and transplantation (in which another personââ¬â¢s kidney is used instead). Successful treatment ââ¬â by dialysis or a transplant ââ¬â now gives people with kidney failure a new lease of life, sometimes for many years (Stein 2002, p. 122). However, death can be inevitable. Patients and families usually want to know how long a person can survive with untreated end-stage kidney failure. This too is variable, depending on the extent to which their old kidneys are working ââ¬â and therefore the amount of urine that they pass. The kidneys may be able to get rid of some excess fluid, but unable to process waste products such as creatinine and urea, or salts such as potassium. It is the build-up of these substances in the blood (especially the potassium) that usually leads to death. This is why dialysis represents the success of our knowledge and skill in conquering a kidney illness. Dialysis is all about life. And, it could cost an insurmountable amount of money when someone goes to dialysis three times a week for the rest of his or her life Indeed, there is an immediate need to improve the governmentââ¬â¢s program that provides dialysis care for those with kidney failure. This is why the members of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate introduced bipartisan legislation to update the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) program, which 75 percent of the nationââ¬â¢s dialysis patients rely on to live. This is called The Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act of 2005, sponsored by Senators Rick Santorum and Kent Conrad, and Representatives William Jefferson and Dave Camp. This legislation would update Medicareââ¬â¢s composite rate for ESRD ââ¬â which does not automatically adjust for inflationary increases ââ¬â as well as provide for important education and preventative programs to help stem the rising tide of kidney failure in the United States (U.S. Newswire, 16 March 2005). The primary reason for health care is to prevent or cure diseases or attend to people with chronic or terminal illnesses. It may be possible, however, for health care costs to undermine the soundness of what our pockets can afford, and such an eventuality would be undesirable. Hence, a pressing issue entails how to achieve a situation in which expensive medical care can continue to be available while, at the same time, the total cost of health care is scaled back so as to keep this cost in line with the overall rate of skyrocketing prices. For instance, Talladega in Alabama has only two dialysis units and there are almost 100 patients that cramp the two units. With The Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act of 2005 patients will be assured for better care among patients stricken with kidney disease through improvements in Medicare and enhanced education programs, which would prevent numbers in Talladega County from growing any more. Although the act currently sits in a Senate committee awaiting approval, thatââ¬â¢s not stopping local doctors from offering warnings to at-risk patients. Ghayas Habash, a nephrologist, said that the main thing people need is to get the message across to people at risk for kidney failure, those with diabetes, hypertension, black people and those with a family history. If only we address these people aggressively, we can prevent a lot of kidney failure (Casciaro, 18 August 2005). True enough, medical costs have more than doubled over the last decade, and health insurance premiums have risen nearly five times faster than wages. Americans are spending far more on health care than residents of any other industrialized country while receiving lower-quality care overall. Meanwhile, big U.S. businesses that provide health coverage to workers complain that the high costs are crippling their ability to compete with companies abroad whose workers get government-subsidized care. The Bush administration is encouraging consumers to switch to consumer-directed health plans, whose high co-payments would force them to shop for more cost-effective care. But critics argue that individuals can do little to control costs. Instead, they argue, the plans would primarily benefit the wealthy and that society must make hard choices about which care should be paid for by public and private dollars (Clemmit, 7 April 2006). The overwhelming amount of health care purchased in the United States is paid for by the government through Medicare and Medicaid or by privately owned health-insurance companies. Both Medicare-Medicaid and health insurance firms employ personnel, process claims, and issue payments. Their procedures and personnel are expensive and add to the cost of health care without actual medical benefit to anyone. Proposals have been made to dismantle the so-called third party infrastructure and change to a single-payer system in which government would provide and pay for health care. Taxes would be adjusted to cover the costs and administrative bureaucracy would be kept to a minimum so as to maximize efficiency. While a single-payer system has obvious merits, a national consensus in favor of such a system has not emerged. Thus, the problem of health care dollars paying for administrative infrastructure remains, and there is no clear indication as to how to resolve it. For kidney patients, The Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act of 2005 is long overdue because dialysis is not an option but a necessity for them to continue living. This legislation modernizes the Medicare ESRD program by: à · à creating public and patient education initiatives to increase awareness about Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and to help patients learn self-management skills; à · à à ensuring patient quality through improvements in the ESRD payment system, including establishing an annual update framework and evaluating the effect of the new Physician Fee Schedule G-code visit requirements; à · à à providing Medicare coverage for CKD education services for Medicare-eligible patients; à · à establishing an outcomes-based ESRD reimbursement demonstration project; à · à aligning incentives for physician surgical reimbursement for dialysis access to promote quality and lower costs; à · à à establishing a uniform training for patient care dialysis technicians; and à · à improving ESRD coverage by removing barriers to home dialysis and creating an ESRD Advisory Committee (RPA Website, 2006). Some critics have argue about the use of CKD education. In deeper analysis, CKD education is very crucial because people need to know the things about it prior to developing kidney failure but there is no funding for education that could have helped prolong your kidney function. This Act will be beneficial not only for CKD patients, but also for people who may be at risk. This act will definitely enable people that you (or your loved one) can get more treatments. With the current policy, most people cannot avail the dialysis they need because Medicare doesnââ¬â¢t pay for more than 3 treatments a week As quality of care is everyoneââ¬â¢s privilege, Medicare reimbursement should be updated annually for dialysis clinics just like it is for other providers. Medicareââ¬â¢s low reimbursement could result to employer health plans paying more than their share and private companies have to pay higher. This would be a heavy burden for people with CKF because they need to pay higher premiums or their health coverage is reduced, or sometimes employees with CKF or employees that have dependents with CKF have the risk to lose their jobs because of the high costs on their part. Kidney patients need life-saving treatments that need to be improved because their lives are on the line and it is sapping them out of their funds because of the costs. Enacting Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act of 2005 should therefore be prioritized and Congress should not think twice. Everything should be done to help CKF patients combat this lethal disease, and support them with all our efforts to get better treatments before it is too late References Clemmitt, M.
